Sensitive Skin Treatment

Living with sensitive skin is not a pleasant journey, you will experience sudden and persistent irritations such as redness, itchiness, dryness, peeling, roughness and inflammation.

The good news is, Dr. Claudia has solutions to your sensitive skin issue. We have three types of effective treatments, i.e. RES Treatment, chromotherapy and post care treatment using our home care products. The treatment principle is that we will first moisturize your skin to make it soothing and calm, so that once your skin is stabilized and is able to achieve oil-moisture balance, your skin will be less sensitive.

What is Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin simply means your skin is more inclined to react when encountering certain items and conditions, for example, skincare products, polluted air and water, household cleaning agents and even surrounding temperature swing.

People with sensitive skin may experience redness, itching, burning, dryness, peeling, roughness, inflammation or other discomforts. Thus we will need to pay special care and attention to skin’s health to prevent unwanted flare-ups, irritation, or even serious diseases.

An effective treatment routine for sensitive skin should involve gentle, soothing and hypoallergenic products.

What is Sensitive skin

Why You Need to be Treated Promptly

Sensitive skin can evolve based on the flow below:

The Eczema > Rosacea > Skin Disease > Skin Cancer

Eczema

1. Eczema

Eczema is a group of conditions that causes irritated, itchy, and inflamed skin. Eczema is set off when the immune system in your body is triggered by an irritant of an allergen. Some milder symptoms include itchy and dry skin, while more severe ones are blisters, fluid oozing from flare-ups and scaly patches. One important note is that eczema breaks down the skin barriers, hence it can increase your risk of skin infections.

Rosacea

2. Rosacea

Rosacea is identified as flare-ups and remissions, often affecting the central face (nose and cheeks).  Rosacea will make your skin to have persistent redness that looks like blushing and sunburn, and your eyes become bloodshot and watery. In severe cases, men, especially will have skin thickening on the nose, leading to facial disfigurement, and blocked nasal flow.

Skin Diseases

3. Skin Diseases

Severe, widespread skin diseases will cause symptoms on everywhere of the body, including on private parts, on the soles and on the scalp. The symptoms can vary from big patches, to dry, scaly flakes to pus-filled bumps. These can be itchy and painful too, affecting your daily life.

Skin Cancer

4. Skin Cancer

Just like any other human organs, your skin is not immune from cancer risks. Skin cancers are malignant tumors formed by abnormal cells growing out of control in the epidermis, i.e. the outermost skin layer. Although treatments are getting more advanced and effective nowadays, skin cancer is still very much feared as it seems like an impending death sentence.

Cause Of Sensitive Skin

1. Overuse of Chemical Products

While no one cannot eliminate chemicals in our daily lives, you can still choose products that do not contain harmful chemicals. Chemicals known to be harmful to skin are including paraben (preservatives), sulphate (chemical latherers), fragrances and polyethylene glycols (thickener and softener).

2. Environment Factors

If your skin is sensitive, be careful of the environment factors such as air pollution – the free radicals in the air strip the barrier layer of your skin, humidity – skin dries more in low humidity environment, and pollination – pollen activate your immune system and trigger inflammation.

3. Medication

Certain medications can cause photo-sensitivity in some people. Photo reaction mimics a sunburn or causes an allergic reaction such as hives or a rash. After exposure to UV light, antibiotics such as tetracycline and sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim), some diuretics and antihistamines, such as Benadryl and some antidepressants can be photo toxic, it will causes irritation to skin.

4. Hormonal Change

Especially hormonal changes during Menses and Menopause.

Estrogen helps to plump and thicken your skin. If you skin feels especially tender and painful during menses and starting of menopause, it is due to your body’s low estrogen level. Also, at around the age of 50, the pH level of your skin changes, making your skin more sensitive.

5. Lack of Skin Moisture

Skin can dry and cracked easily due to many factors, for example, consuming certain medications such as statins and diuretics, having diseases such as diabetes, undergoing dialysis or chemotherapy, using harsh chemicals, and having vitamin and mineral deficiency.

6. Scar after Skin Burnt

Scars due to burnt skin are especially sensitive to chemicals and sun because burns have damaged or destroyed the oil glands that are normally keeping the skin from getting too dry. Plus, in healed skin, collagen fibers are arranged in a chaotic manner, and may trap nerve endings, which also contributes to itching.

Benefits of Sensitive Skin Treatment

Sensitive skin treatment offers several benefits for individuals who experience skin sensitivity, irritation, or reactivity. Proper care and tailored routines can help manage and alleviate the discomfort associated with sensitive skin.

Here are some key benefits of sensitive skin treatment:

Sensitive skin treatments focus on using gentle, soothing products that reduce redness, itching, burning, and other discomforts commonly experienced by individuals with sensitive skin.

Sensitive skin treatments often involve avoiding harsh ingredients, fragrances, and allergens that can trigger allergic reactions or exacerbate skin sensitivity.

Many sensitive skin treatments prioritize strengthening the skin’s natural barrier function. A healthier skin barrier helps retain moisture, prevents water loss, and enhances the skin’s resilience against external aggressors.

Sensitive skin treatments often incorporate ingredients like chamomile, aloe vera, and niacinamide, which have anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe redness and calm irritated skin.

Sensitive skin tends to be prone to dryness. Sensitive skin treatments emphasize maintaining optimal hydration levels to prevent dry, flaky skin and maintain a soft and supple complexion.

Adopting a proper sensitive skin care routine can help prevent further sensitivity issues and protect the skin from future irritants or triggers.

Sensitive skin treatments aim to provide a comfortable and pleasant experience during skincare routines, avoiding the stinging, burning, or tight sensations often associated with sensitive skin.

Following a suitable sensitive skin treatment routine can help minimize the frequency and severity of flare-ups of conditions like eczema, rosacea, and contact dermatitis.

RES Treatment

#1 RES Treatment

Rescue Sensitive Skin, eg: Moisturizing, Soothing, Calming and Stabilizing.

If you are having sensitive skin, you are not suitable to directly go for any laser treatment or pigmentation removal treatment. Your skin needs to be stabilized first.

First, we will moisturize your skin, making it soothing and calm. Once your skin has achieved moisture and oil balance, only then your skin is not too sensitive anymore, and hence able to undergo other treatments.

Chromotherapy

#2 Chromotherapy

Chromotherapy is ‘light’ therapy, which is using the visible colour spectrums, eg: red, green, blue and their combinations to activate biochemical and hormonal processes in human body.

Post Care Treatment

#3 Post Care Treatment

Dr. Claudia has a series of home care products, tailored to your needs at home. You can still have good, long-lasting problem-free skin after completing your treatment in our clinic.
